RESEARCH ENGINEER, Mechanical Engineering (MechE), to engineer and build experimental protoytpes and serve in a program management role to coordinate the engineering efforts of teams of researchers in a group of approximately twenty students and staff. Major areas of engineering work will include solar-powered devices, data acquisition systems, power management systems, brackish water desalination systems, irrigation systems, agricultural equipment, assistive technologies, and customized mechanical testing equipment. Will work independently and with research teams to design, prototype, and test bench-scale and pilot-scale electromechanical prototype systems both domestically and internationally; help mentor students and oversee research plans and goals across multiple projects; oversee the lab's fabrication facility; and participate in composing academic publications (journal and conference articles).

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: master's degree in mechanical engineering, materials science, physics, chemistry, or related technical field; at least three years of experience working in an academic engineering research and/or commercial R&D environment; ability to design complex mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, build and operate electromechanical prototypes, and safely use power tools; excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate technical issues, give and receive constructive feedback, and manage team dynamics; excellent organizational and management skills; attention to detail; ability to assess and plan for the needs of project teams at a high level; ability to maintain flexibility while effectively managing projects with changing needs; and ability to lift weights of at least 20 lbs.
