The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) of the School of Engineering, Rutgers University—New Brunswick, Busch Campus, Piscataway, NJ, is seeking applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor in the area of water chemistry and process engineering. The hire is a part of the Advancing STEM Diversity in Environmental Engineering cluster supported by funds from the Rutgers Presidential Diversity Hiring Initiative. The strategic diversity cluster aims to advance diversity in environmental engineering, specifically in the areas of urban environments, health, climate change, and environmental justice. The anticipated start date of the employment is September 1, 2023.
The faculty search aligns with the strategic directions of the Department and recognition of the need for building collaborative relationships between engineering disciplines and beyond. Potential areas of expertise could include pipeline corrosion chemistry, nutrient recovery innovations, sidestream processes, industrial and decentralized treatment systems, water reuse, emerging organic contaminants (e.g., PFAS, PPCPs), membranes and materials for treatment systems, and other related/relevant areas. The new hire is intended to augment research capacity at the forefront of Environmental Engineering and the university's current strong research programs in pathogen fate/transport, bioremediation, microplastic pollution, indoor air quality, etc. Prospective candidates should complement the current expertise and research among the environmental engineers in the CEE Department and the engineers in the Environmental Sciences Department.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a closely related engineering field.
